According to TikTok, the platform has removed violative content and prohibited related keywords and query recommendations. The company said it was dedicated to keeping the platform secure and allocating resources in strengthening enforcement strategies.

Investigations also found communities with up to 9,000 participants marketing the experimental drug using Telegram's integrated discovery tool, which operates like a public directory. Typing “retatrutide” immediately brings up channels with thousands of users, populated with photos of weight loss, positive testimonials and step-by-step instructions for preparing or injecting at residence.

After minutes of entering one community, a seller shared contact information, where most purchases occur. The seller sent an guidebook and promised delivery within 48 hours. When asked whether the substance was authentic, one vendor responded: “You can’t be sure.” Another shared a image of a supposed laboratory certificate. Not one inquired about weight, medical conditions or previous experience.

Product Details and Costs

Within these groups, posts show dark colored parcels with Royal Mail stickers, claiming to contain fresh supplies. One message read: “It took eight of us to load them this morning.”

Customers can select between powder vials, mixed at residence with sterile water, or pre-filled injectors usually sold at £160 for 20 milligrams. When asked how long a pen should last, sellers give conflicting responses varying between a few weeks to “depends on your body”.

Platform Oversight and Security Measures

A representative for Telegram stated it regularly monitored dangerous material on its platform including content that promoted the “misuse of controlled medications”. The company added that it eliminated “millions of pieces of harmful content each day”.

Medical Expert Cautions

“People are administering materials they cannot confirm. Although the research behind this drug is valid, these digital versions may not include what they claim,” stated Jason Murphy, the director of pharmacy at Chemist4U.

Dr Crystal Wyllie of an online medical service connected the increase in demand to recent price rises for authorized slimming medications such as Mounjaro. “With prices rising, individuals are using social media. A spokesperson from Eli Lilly said retatrutide was in phase 3 research studies and had not been reviewed or authorized by any government authority anywhere in the world. “Consequently at this time no one can market [it] for personal consumption,” they said, adding that any item “falsely representing itself as a Lilly experimental substance not yet approved … may subject patients to possibly significant health risks”.
