The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure About Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Countless users and merchants are posting online claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
