In the 94th minute, pure elation erupted for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández stabbed home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and handed the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane was the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to warm the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the City bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with an unparalleled CV for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, stood a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, headlined by Chelsea's important midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed nearly insurmountable.
